Deminsky, Ippolit Alexandrovich (1864-1912), physician and public health worker, «12 outstanding worker in the fight against plague. | Graduated from the medical faculty of Kazan University in 1889. Worked in Astrakhan province (studying the flora and climate of Astrakhan province, the living conditions of workers in fishing and salt industries, the composition of Tinsk mud). His work in epidemiology mainly concerned the study of cholera and plague. Deminsky worked on plague epidemics in Kolobovka (1899), in Vladimirovka (1900), in Sagana (1911), and in Rakhinka (1912). He experimentally studied plague in camels and rodents. In Rakhinka (Astrakhan province) he isolated plague cultures from susliks. In doing so, Deminsky became infected and died. In his last telegram to Dr. Klodnitsky, he reported: "I have contracted pulmonary plague. Take the cultures obtained. Autopsy my body as a case of experimental infection from susliks." In 1908, Deminsky founded and edited the journal "Izvestiya Obshchestva Astrakhan Vrachei" (Proceedings of the Society of Astrakhan Physicians).-Of his printed works, which mainly concerned cholera and plague, the following should be noted: "Plague in Astrakhan Province for 10 years (1899-1909)" (Proceedings of the Congress of Participants in Anti-Plague Measures in Astrakhan Province and Ural Region, Astrakhan, 1910); "On the question of the role of vegetables in the spread of cholera" (Vrach, newspaper, 1911, No. 18).
