PETECHIAE (petechiae), or ecchymoses (ecchymoma, ecchymosis), are pinpoint hemorrhages observed most often on the skin, serous membranes, and mucous membranes, and which arise in the vast majority of cases by way of diapedesis, especially in so-called hemorrhagic diatheses.
