ACARINAE, mites, an order of the arachnid class (Arachnoidea), contains several families of parasitic mites that are pests of humans, domestic animals, and foodstuffs. Demodecidae, the face mite, an inhabitant of the sebaceous glands of the facial skin; Acarus scabiei, Sarcoptes scabiei, fam. itch mites (Sarcoptidae), the causative agent of human scabies.
