Summary

Albuginitis is a term denoting various forms of inflammation of the tunica albuginea of the testis. Syphilitic albuginitis is a condition leading to the thickening of this membrane through connective tissue proliferation, sometimes accompanied by small gummata.

ALBUGINITIS, albuginitis, a term denoting various forms of inflammation of the tunica albuginea of the testis. Syphilitic albuginitis is a disease of the testicular tunic leading ultimately to the thickening of this membrane. This process is based on the proliferation of connective tissue. Beneath the thickened membranes of the testis, small gummata, sometimes not exceeding the size of a hemp seed, may also be found (Virchow).
