ANICHKOV, Nikolai Nikolaevich, a noted pathologist, born in 1885. In 1909 he graduated from the Military Medical Academy, in 1912 he defended his doctoral dissertation, and in 1913–14 he worked in Germany, mainly at the Aschoff Institute. Since 1916 he has been an assistant professor, since 1917 a prosector, and since 1920 a professor at the Military Medical Academy in the chair of general and experimental pathology and head of the department of pathological anatomy at the State Institute of Experimental Medicine in Leningrad. A. has conducted scientific work on experimental myocarditis (dissertation), on the pathology of arteries, on the deposition of lipoids, on in vivo staining, on cerebral anemia, on experimental tumors, etc. The most significant investigations of A. and his staff, relating to the pathology of atherosclerosis, led to the establishment of new views on this process. Furthermore, the works of A.'s laboratory on the question of in vivo staining and on the function of the reticulo-endothelial system are well known.
