ANONYCHIA (from the Greek a-negative particle and onych-nail), a rare congenital anomaly expressed by the complete absence of one or many nails. Instead of a nail, there is a thin horny layer resembling the epidermal covering of the skin. Sometimes anonychia is combined with baldness.
