Summary

Balanorrhagia is defined in this 1930s Soviet medical encyclopedia as bleeding from the preputial sac caused by trauma or rupture of the frenulum during sexual intercourse. It can also occur in association with ulcerative processes and condylomas of the preputial sac. Treatment focuses on addressing the underlying cause.

Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)

BALANORRHAGIA (from Greek balanos, acorn, glans penis, and rhegnumi, to burst forth), bleeding from the preputial sac resulting from trauma to the latter or rupture of the short frenulum of the penis during sexual intercourse. It may also be observed in ulcerative processes and tumors (condylomas) of the preputial sac. Treatment must be directed toward eliminating the etiological factor causing the balanorrhagia.
