Summary
Circular psychoses are psychiatric diseases characterized by repeated episodes of excitement and depression with intervals of psychological equilibrium. The term was originally proposed by French psychiatrist Falret for cases where excitement and depression systematically alternated in wave-like fashion without intervals, but since the time of Kraepelin, it has been used synonymously with all forms of manic-depressive psychosis.
