LASHCHENKOV Pavel Nikolaevich (1865-1925), known hygienist. Completed his studies at Kharkov University in 1888, worked as an epidemiologist and sanitary physician, at one time heading the sanitary bureau of the city of Kharkov; then specialized in hygiene and worked as an assistant to Professor of Hygiene I. Skvortsov, receiving the title of privat-docent at Kharkov University. In 1904, he was elected professor of the department of hygiene at Tomsk University, which he held until his death. L. has numerous scientific works, some of which (on droplet infections and their transmission through the air) are widely known. He compiled and published a course on hygiene ('Guide to Experimental Hygiene', Tomsk, 1st edition, 1913; posthumous 4th edition, 1927). In addition, L. published a number of other works on public health issues, on cereal crops of the Far North, on land management and healthcare, etc. L. took an active part in the organization of Soviet healthcare in the city of Tomsk.
