Summary

Metempsychosis, or the transmigration of souls, is one of the oldest forms of belief in an afterlife. In certain psychiatric conditions, particularly schizophrenia, the delusion that one has existed on earth many times before is a relatively common symptom.

METEMPSYCHOSIS, the transmigration of souls, is one of the most ancient forms of belief in an afterlife. In certain psychiatric diseases (predominantly schizophrenia), the thought that a given person has existed on earth many times before constitutes one of the not infrequent forms of delusion.
