ALLOPO, François (François Henri Hallopeau, 1842-1919), a prominent neurologist and dermatologist, well-versed in general medicine; an ardent advocate of hectin, a precursor to arsphenamine. A. proposed the so-called 'barrier' method for aborting syphilis: the injection of hectin between the site of the primary lesion and the nearby lymph glands. The name of A. is associated with the talented description of 'acrodermatitis continua suppurativa'. A. was a member of many scientific societies, including the Moscow Dermatological and Venereological Society. Among the works of A., besides the textbook on general pathology that went through six editions (Traité élémentaire de pathologie générale..., Paris, 1900), the most well-known are: a manual on dermatology (jointly with E. Leredde: Traité pratique de dermatologie, Paris, 1900) and a textbook on syphilis (jointly with Ch. Fouquet, 1911).
