Binet, Alfred (1857-1912), French physician, neuropathologist, and psychiatrist, world-renowned for his remarkable works that created an entire epoch in the field of experimental psychology in the 19th century. He became the leader of psychological science, where initially under the influence of Wundt he studied elementary mental processes, but later turned to the study of individual characteristics of the whole personality of man. Transferring the psychological experiment to the school, he developed together with Simon (Simon) his famous method of tests (see Binet-Simon method). Since 1895, B. began to publish the annual journal 'Année psychologique', and in 1905 founded the 'Society for the Free Study of the Child', in the organ of which ('Bulletins') numerous studies of B. on child psychology were placed. B. soon became the head of scientific research and practical work in the field of educational psychology. B. also worked in the fields of anthropometry, psychophysiology, and psychiatry.
