Color Top, a device for mixing colors, used in experimental physiology and psychology for studying the laws of color mixing, research into color perception and memory for colors. To a vertical stand is attached an axis, which is set in motion by an infinite belt connected to a motor (see figure); discs of various colors are mounted on the axis; these discs have radial cuts, which allows part of one disc to be placed behind another, resulting in one disc consisting of two sectors of different colors; the ratio between the sectors can be changed; color mixing is achieved by rapid rotation of the disc.
