Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)

DALRYMPLE'S SIGN (more correctly Dalrymple; Dalrymple), observed in Basedow's disease, consists of an abnormal widening of the palpebral fissure and a decrease in the frequency (compared to the norm) of blinking movements. Dalrymple's sign can be observed both in both eyes simultaneously and on one side (Oppenheim).
