EVETSKY, Fedor Orestovich (1851-1909), a prominent Russian ophthalmologist. He received his medical education at the Military Medical Academy and abroad (Zurich, Heidelberg). His main activities took place in Moscow and partly in Dorpat. Not feeling great interest in purely practical work as an eye doctor, E. devoted all his energy to the study of the pathological anatomy of the eye. He organized an excellent laboratory in the newly opened eye clinic of Moscow University. In the study of the pathological anatomy of the eye, E. can rightly be called a pioneer in Russia and one of the best specialists. His works, published in Russian and German, are still cited both in our country and abroad. Thanks to the efforts of E., Moscow eye doctors for the first time united in 1887 in the "Moscow Ophthalmological Circle", initially not legalized, and then, 10 years later, already scientifically mature, transformed into the Society of Eye Doctors in Moscow, which is one of the first specialized scientific societies in the world.
