HOMBURG (Homburg vor der Hohe), a town (14,000 inhabitants) and a balneological and climatic health resort at the southern foot of the Taunus in Germany, in the province of Hesse-Nassau. It is protected from northern and western winds by wooded mountains. The climate is mild and fairly dry; the average temperature in May is +13.5°, in June +19°, in July +18.7°, in August +19.2°, and in September +13.5°; the annual rainfall is 596 mm. The well-organized resort is located in the park belonging to the town. There are 8 sources from Lower Devonian slates with a temperature of 10.6-15° and a solid residue of 4.8 to 26.5 g per 1 liter; the yield is 1,300 hl. According to composition, they are salty carbonated alkaline and earthy alkaline (in 2 sources iron up to 0.038 g per 1 liter). The water is used for drinking, inhalations, and baths; mud treatment is applied. Indications: diseases of the digestive organs, metabolic disorders, heart, nervous, and female diseases, and sciatica. The season is all year round. The main season is from May 1 to the end of October.
