KANTOROVICH Solomon Ilich (born in 1892), physician-organizer. During his student years, he actively participated in public activities. After graduating from the university in 1917, he served as a military physician. During the civil war, he became an active organizer in various areas of Soviet construction in the Ukrainian SSR, primarily in the field of healthcare; at the same time, he worked in the Red Army. He first worked in the People's Commissariat for Social Welfare, managed the provincial social welfare department, and was a member of the Kyiv provincial executive committee. In 1919-1920, he was head of the sanitary department of the 12th Army and the sanitary department of the Kyiv military district. After the final liberation of Kyiv, he created the military and civilian medical-sanitary organization as the plenipotentiary representative of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Southern Front. He headed the Kyiv, and from 1920 the Kharkiv, provincial health department, becoming a member of the collegium of the People's Commissariat of Health of the Ukrainian SSR. For the successful implementation of measures to combat the wave of epidemics, he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor by the All-Ukrainian Central Executive Committee. In 1926, K. was for some time the deputy people's commissar of health of the Ukrainian SSR, and then the deputy chairman of the Kharkiv district executive committee. Member of the All-Ukrainian Central Executive Committee of the last two convocations. In 1929, he was appointed people's commissar of health of the Ukrainian SSR.
