Kannabikh Yuri Vladimirovich (born in 1872), prominent psychiatrist. After graduating from the natural sciences (1896) and medical (1899) faculties of Moscow University, he worked under the guidance of A. Bernstein at the Central Reception Ward for the Mentally Ill in Moscow, as well as in Heidelberg and Munich. In 1910-14, he took an active part in the publication of the journal 'Psychotherapy' (under the editorship of Virubov). In 1918, he was elected privat-docent at Moscow University, in 1920 - professor of psychiatry at the Central Asian University, and in 1921 - professor of psychology at the Moscow Medical Institute (Higher Medical School). Since 1923, K. has been teaching a course in psychotherapy at 1st Moscow State University and since 1925 - minor psychiatry and psychotherapy at the Advanced Training Courses for Physicians of the People's Commissariat of Health at the State Scientific Institute of Neuropsychiatric Prevention, where he heads the department for combating social psychopathies and psychoneuroses. Of K.'s larger works, his monograph 'Cyclothymia, Its Symptomatology and Course' (dissertation, Moscow, 1914) is well known. K.'s later works are devoted mainly to borderline conditions and psychotherapy. Of K.'s recent works, 'History of Psychiatry' (Moscow, 1929) should be mentioned. K. is a popular lecturer, often appearing before worker audiences with lectures and reports on socio-psychiatric and psychohygienic topics.
