Mamia Dmitrievich Orakhelashvili (born 1883) was a physician and old Bolshevik who came from a poor peasant family. He was a member of the Bolshevik Party from 1903 and held various high-ranking positions in Soviet government in Georgia and the Caucasus region.

ORAKHELASHVILI Mamia Dmitrievich (born in 1883), physician, old Bolshevik; comes from a poor peasant family. While still in secondary school, O. participated in the work of social democratic circles. From 1903, Orakhelashvili was a member of the Bolshevik Party, working mainly in Transcaucasia. O. was a participant in the 1905 revolution in St. Petersburg. In 1906, he went abroad and upon his return was arrested in connection with the case of the underground Aul-Abar printing press. After the February Revolution, O. worked in the North Caucasus, and from 1918 in Transcaucasia. After the defeat of Soviet power in Georgia, he was arrested by the Mensheviks and spent 1½ years in prison. In May 1920, O. was released under the peace treaty between Soviet Russia and Georgia. In 1920-21, O. conducted underground work in Georgia; he was chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Georgia and a member of the Caucasian Bureau of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks). From February 1921, he was chairman of the Revolutionary Committee of Soviet Georgia. In 1922-25, he was chairman of the Council of People's Commissars of the Transcaucasian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic. In 1923-25, he was deputy chairman of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR. From the XII Congress, he was a candidate member of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks). From 1926, he was a member of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks). In 1926-29, he was secretary of the Transcaucasian Kraikom. In 1930, he was a member of the editorial board of 'Pravda'. At present (1932), he is secretary of the Transcaucasian Kraikom.
