Pavel Kovalevsky (1850-?) was a Russian psychiatrist who served as the first professor of psychiatry at Kharkov University and later taught at Warsaw and Kazan universities. He founded the first Russian psychiatric journal and authored several important works in psychiatry and forensic psychopathology.

Pavel Kovalevsky Ivanovich (born in 1850), psychiatrist, graduated from Kharkov University. K. was the first professor of psychiatry at Kharkov University, and later held the chair at Warsaw and Kazan universities; subsequently he taught a course on forensic psychopathology at the law faculty of St. Petersburg University. K. founded in Kharkov the first Russian psychiatric journal "Archive of Psychiatry, Neurology and Forensic Psychopathology" (Kharkov, 1883-1898). To the credit of Kovalevsky belong the following textbooks: "Psychiatry" (volumes I-II, Kharkov, 1890); "General Psychopathology" (Kharkov, 1886) and "Forensic Psychiatry" (Warsaw, 1896), as well as a number of monographs: "Syphilis of the Brain and Its Treatment" (Kharkov, 1893); "Migraine and Its Treatment" (St. Petersburg, 1898); "Puerperal Psychoses" (Kharkov, 1894) and several essays on cultural psychopathology ("Ivan the Terrible and His Mental State", Kharkov, 1893) and others.
