Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)

RHODAMINES, a group of basic aniline dyes, phthaleins (pyronine) of meta-aminophenol and its derivatives (rhodamine B and rhodamine S). They are used in a mixture with 1% osmic acid for the simultaneous fixation and staining of blood elements. Martinotti recommends rhodamine S in combination with Victoria blue for staining eleidin.
