AJUGA, Ajuga L., a genus of herbaceous plants from the family of labiates (Labiatae). In the USSR, Ajuga reptans L., the bugleweed, is widely distributed. Certain species—Ajuga chamaepitys Schreb. (Chernozem region) and Ajuga iva Schreb. (southern Europe)—are used in folk medicine as diuretics and laxatives.
