The 1930s encyclopedia defines the term alimentary as relating to nutrition or dietary origin, citing examples such as alimentary glycosuria and alimentary obesity.
Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)
ALIMENTARY (from Latin alimentum - food), depending on nutrition, of dietary origin. For example, alimentary glycosuria is the excretion of sugar in the urine due to the introduction into the stomach of significant amounts of grape sugar, which under such conditions is not entirely deposited in the liver as the carbohydrate glycogen, but passes partly into the blood (for details see Glycosuria). Alimentary obesity, in contrast to constitutional obesity, is the excessive deposition of fat in the body depending on overfeeding, rather than on any profound metabolic disorders.
