APATHY, apathia (from the Greek a - negative particle, and pathos - suffering), insensibility, dispassion, listlessness of feelings, emotional indifference; it characterizes states observed in people who are in a clouded state of consciousness (dazed), the demented, and those with a primary loss of emotional vitality (in schizophrenia).
