Summary
Arterioma is a historical term once used to describe the appearance of a new artery forming within an existing one due to intimal proliferation. Today, the term is obsolete in that sense and is used to denote an arterial tumor, also known as an angioma.
Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)
ARTERIOMA, a neoplasm of an artery. In former times, arterioma referred to cases where, with the proliferation of the inner lining of an artery and the narrowing of its lumen, the impression was created that a new artery had formed inside the artery. At the present time, the term arterioma is not used at all in the aforementioned sense, but serves to designate a tumor originating from arteries (see Angioma).
