Batalin, Fyodor Aleksandrovich (1823-1895); graduated from Moscow University in the physics-mathematics faculty in 1844; author of a major work—"The Pyatigorsk Region and Caucasian Mineral Waters" (2 volumes), which appeared as a result of B.'s participation in the work of the Boundary Commission at the Caucasian mineral waters (1856). This work is considered one of the most substantial in the history of the study of Pyatigorsk resorts and is the first scientific book in this field, based on natural historical investigations (analysis of waters, geodetic work, geological research). A mineral bitter-salt source near Pyatigorsk is named after Batalin (see).
