Summary

An entry from the Soviet Medical Encyclopedia on Bergmann fibers, which are smooth, radiating glial cell processes located in the molecular layer of the cerebellar cortex. These fibers originate from specialized neuroglial cells situated deep within the cortex and are noted to be more abundant in older individuals.

Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)

BERGMANN FIBERS, located in the molecular layer of the cerebellar cortex, are smooth, radiating processes of neuroglial cells situated deep within the cortex; due to their numerous upward-directed processes, these cells resemble plumes or tufts (cellules empanachées). Bergmann fibers are more abundant in older individuals.
