Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)

CARCINOLYSIN, a preparation invented and introduced into therapy by Matsushita. According to its author, the composition of carcinolysin is an enzyme obtained from the Chinese coniferous plant "Haisung" and dissolved in oil extracted from the "Pop" plant. The remedy is administered intravenously or intramuscularly in doses of 1-3 cm3 for the treatment of cancer and other malignant neoplasms, because it supposedly causes necrosis and softening of the tumor. The favorable reports of Japanese physicians were not confirmed by our clinic. The preparation apparently has no therapeutic significance.
