Pathology

Also known as: Cellulite

Historical document, translated for reference. It reflects medical knowledge of the 1920s–30s and is not medical advice.

Summary

This 1930s encyclopedia entry defines cellulitis as a literal inflammation of cells. It notes that the term is obsolete because inflammation is understood to affect tissues rather than individual cells.

Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)

CELLULITIS (from Latin cellula—little cell), literally inflammation of cells. The term is not in use, because at the present time the concept of inflammation refers to tissues, and not to cells or their complexes.
