Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)
GAYET'S DISEASE (Gayet), one of the forms of lethargic sleep. It is encountered chiefly in Africa and always terminates in death (see Encephalitis). In addition, Gayet described in 1875 a case of a disease which was later (1886) named polioencephalitis haemorrhagica superior; under this name it is known at the present time (see Polioencephalitis).
