DESYATOV, Alexander Aristarkhovich (born in 1861), sanitary physician, organizer and supervisor of sanitary affairs on waterways. Graduated from the medical faculty of Moscow University in 1887, was a zemstvo physician in Novgorod province for about 10 years, then transferred to work in the newly organized sanitary supervision on the Volga and Kama rivers, which he supervised until 1920, after which he moved to a consultant position in the North-Western Water Health Department. D. ; developed the main principles of sanitation on waterways, studied and described the working and living conditions of waterway workers. D. published more than 20 works, mainly concerning the sanitation of waterways and printed in various journals. In 1929, D. for his scientific and public services was confirmed by the All-Russian Central Executive Committee as a Hero of Labor. EMOTIONAL DETERIORATION (from French deterioration-worsening, decline), qualitative impairment of mental activity, mainly in the emotional-voluntary sphere, which often remains after the acute phases of mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, as a permanent result of the pathological process that occurred. Patients return to their previous activities, their intellectual abilities formally appear to be unaffected, but patients lose emotional liveliness, become lethargic, indifferent and devoid of initiative. Somewhat different in character are those cases of mental changes after suffering lethargic encephalitis in youth, in which immoral tendencies come to the forefront.
