Marzeev Alexander Nikitich (born in 1883), sanitary physician. In 1899 he entered the Moscow Teacher's Institute, from which for participation in revolutionary activity in 1902 he was expelled, arrested, and then exiled under police supervision. In 1911 he graduated from the medical faculty of Moscow University, after which he entered service as a sanitary physician of the Yekaterinoslav provincial zemstvo, where he carried out extensive work "on the organization of medical-food points for agricultural workers and on the construction of rural water supply systems and bathhouses. The printed works of this period are devoted to sanitary supervision, sanitary education ("On Readings for the People on Medicine") and the fight with cholera in 1910 in Yekaterinoslav province (published in the publications of the Yekaterinoslav provincial zemstvo in 1910-14). In 1914 M. was mobilized and served as a sanitary physician in the active army, where in particular he led the fight with the epidemic of scurvy, as a result of which he published a work on scurvy in the army. In 1917-18 he participated in the revolutionary movement at the front and was chairman of the committee of soldier deputies of the headquarters of the 39th army corps. Since 1918 he worked as a sanitary physician of the Mariupol health department, and since 1922 to the present time' he has been head of the sanitary-epidemiological department of the People's Commissariat of Health of Ukraine. During this time, with the closest participation of M., the Ukrainian sanitary organization was created, the All-Ukrainian sanitary council, the sanitary-technical council were organized, a mass survey was conducted to study the sanitary condition of water supply, rural housing, Jewish shtetls, Donbass and others. During this period M. published a number of works on the housing question (including the one published separately as "Housing and Sanitary Life of the Rural Population of Ukraine", Kharkov, 1927), on preventive vaccinations against diphtheria, on the fight with tbc in America and others. A number of reports were made by M. at all-Union and all-Ukrainian congresses of epidemiologists and sanitary physicians on issues of organization of sanitary affairs, fight with epidemics, housing and communal and industrial sanitation, etc. In 1930 M. was elected professor of the department of general and communal hygiene of the Kharkov State Institute of Physicians' Improvement and head of the sanitary-hygienic department of the Ukrainian State Institute of Health.
