GERANIUM, Geranium, family Geraniaceae (Geraniaceae). In medicine, the following are used: the American species Geranium maculatum L. (North America) and the European species Geranium Robertianum L. (USSR, Finland, Poland, Lithuania, Bessarabia); there are 21 species. A liquid extract is made from the roots of the American geranium, used as an astringent, 20 drops, 4-6 times a day, for diarrhea and intestinal hemorrhages. The roots and herb of the European geranium are used as a folk remedy for diarrhea and body aches.
