Medovikov Petr Sergeevich (born in 1873), professor of pediatrics at the State Institute for Advanced Medical Studies in Leningrad, scientific director of the infant clinic and tuberculosis department at the Leningrad Institute for the Protection of Motherhood and Infancy. In 1897 he graduated from the Military Medical Academy. In 1913 he received associate professorship at the Military Medical Academy. In 1919 he was elected professor at Kharkov University in the department of childhood diseases, and in 1920 he received the chair at the State Institute for Advanced Medical Studies. Medovikov began to specialize in pediatrics in the early years of his medical practice, defending his dissertation "On the question of the bacterial flora of the intestine in healthy infants" (SPb, 1902). Being one of the leading scientific authorities in the field of pediatrics, Medovikov holds a prominent public position. In the prerevolutionary period, Medovikov organized a consultation for infants at the Military Medical Academy; was one of the organizers of the All-Russian Guardianship for the Protection of Motherhood and Infancy; works in the Commission for the Fight against Childhood Tuberculosis at the Leningrad Regional Health Department and others. Medovikov was elected chairman of all-union congresses of children's doctors; serves as deputy chairman of the All-Union Society of Children's Doctors and others. Medovikov is a member of the editorial boards of the journals "Pediatrics", "Questions of Tuberculosis", "Protection of Motherhood and Infancy" and others. Co-editor of the Great Medical Encyclopedia. Medovikov has written more than 70 scientific works. The most important of them: "Physiology, pathology and therapy of digestion and nutrition in infants" (P., 1921); "Classification of digestive and nutritional disorders in infancy" (Proceedings of the II All-Union Congress of Children's Doctors, Journal for the Study of Early Childhood, Vol. II, Nos. 1-2, 1923); "Tuberculosis in childhood" (2nd ed., L., 1926); "Rickets and its treatment" (M.-L., 1927); "Biological foundations of prevention in children and technique of its implementation" (M.-L., 1929).
