Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)

ODESSA ESTUARIES, three estuaries that are sea bays separated from the sea by a narrow strip of land. The water level in the Odessa estuaries is lower than the sea level, which is why seawater constantly seeps into the estuary. Of the three Odessa estuaries—the Kuyalnik (formerly Andreyevsky), Hadzhibey, and Klein-Liebenthal—the greatest balneological significance belongs to the first two (detailed see Estuaries).
