Summary
Polyadenitis is multiple inflammation of the lymph nodes, observed in acute and chronic infectious diseases. It can occur regionally, such as in the neck during measles or scarlet fever, or systemically, as in syphilis or tuberculosis. The 1930s encyclopedia distinguishes polyadenitis from regional and systemic hyperplasias and neoplastic processes like lymphosarcomatosis.
Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)
POLYADENITIS (polyadenitis), multiple inflammation of the lymph nodes. It is observed in acute and chronic infectious diseases both regionally, for example in the neck region (measles, scarlet fever, diphtheria), mediastinum (pneumonia), and universally (syphilitic, tuberculous polyadenitis). Polyadenitis should be distinguished from regional and systemic hyperplasias (lymphadenoses), as well as from neoplastic processes of the lymphosarcomatosis type.
