TUMENOL, Tumenol-Ammonium, a dark brown, syrupy liquid obtained by the sulfonation of tar extracted from bituminous shale. It dissolves easily in water, but with difficulty in alcohol and ether. It is used instead of ichthyol for skin diseases. The empirical formula is C28H31O2SO3NH4.
