Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)

Varzi-Yachi (Varziyachinsk), a local mud resort in the Votsk Autonomous Oblast, located 21 km from the city of Izhevsk. It is situated on a small elevation on the bank of the Varzi River. The therapeutic resources of the resort consist of: a peat bog, from which therapeutic mud is extracted, and sulfur springs, of which one has dried up, while the remaining four have progressively decreased their flow (to 10,000 liters per day according to measurements in 1925). Indications are the same as for mud resorts in general. In the park there is a mud bathhouse and buildings for patients. The treatment season runs from June 1 to September 1. V.-Y. has been functioning since 1885. Transportation is available by the Kama River to the 'Ikskoye Ustye' landing (40 km from the resort).
