ABBATIA, a seaside climatic resort of Yugoslavia, on the shore of the Adriatic Sea, on the Istrian Peninsula. A. is protected from the west by Monte Maggiore (1,396 m); the resort extends from the coast to 100 m above sea level. Average humidity - 78%; precipitation - 1,682 mm per year; rainy months - October and November. Average annual temperature +13°, in winter +7.9°, in July +22.3°. In winter, the north-east wind (bora) predominates, in autumn - the south-east wind (sirocco). The soil is limestone, the vegetation is southern (laurel thickets). The coast is rocky, the sea bottom is sandy; good bathing facilities. Salinity of seawater - 37.8 g per liter. Sea temperature in July +26.5°, in January +7.3°. Many villas and boarding houses. Up to 30,000 visitors. Solariums, Zander and physiotherapy institutes.
