Summary

Amastia is an extremely rare congenital anomaly characterized by the absence of mammary glands. It may occur unilaterally or bilaterally and is often associated with ovarian hypoplasia and other developmental defects.

AMASTIA, or amatia (from the Greek a- negative particle, and mastos-breast), is an extremely rare deformity consisting of the absence of the mammary glands; it is observed on one or both sides, usually in combination with underdevelopment of the ovaries and in the presence of other deformities. Simultaneously with amastia, underdevelopment of the corresponding pectoral muscles is sometimes noted.
