ANOVARIA (from Greek a- negative particle and Latin ovarium - ovary), an extremely rare malformation consisting in the agenesis of both ovaries; it is usually combined with the absence or underdevelopment of other genital organs, in particular the mammary glands. Anovaria is observed both in non-viable fetuses and in adult subjects with general infantilism; Tandler and Gross classify these signs as manifestations of asexualism. There are observations of pituitary enlargement in anovaria.
