Arenia is the congenital absence of both kidneys, a very rare malformation usually observed together with other severe developmental anomalies in non-viable fetuses, such as in 'sirens' or acardius. The absence of one kidney occurs relatively more frequently.

ARENIA (from Greek a- negative particle, and Latin ren- kidney), congenital absence of both kidneys; a very rare malformation, usually observed simultaneously together with other severe developmental anomalies in non-viable fetuses, for example, in so-called 'sirens', acardius. The agenesis of one kidney occurs relatively frequently (one case in 1,000-2,000 autopsies); see also Kidneys.
