AMUSIA (from Greek a- negative particle and mousia - music), the loss of the ability to understand or perform vocal and instrumental music, to write and read musical notation. According to Henschen, the disorder of musical performance depends on disease of the second frontal gyrus (field 45 according to Brodmann or area triangularis EBr according to Economo), while the disorder of comprehension depends on a focus in the first temporal gyrus (field 22 according to Brodmann or TAg according to Economo).
