ANCISTRODON, pit viper, a genus of pit vipers with a triangular head, but without a rattle, venomous. A. halys Pall.—the common pit viper—lives from the Volga to the Yenisey and south of 51° N lat. In Eastern Siberia, A. blomhoffi Boie—the Eastern pit viper—and A. intermedius—the intermediate pit viper, which also extends into the Semirechye region—are found (see Snakes).
