Astvatsaturov, Mikhail Ivanovich, professor at the Military Medical Academy, neurologist. Born in 1877 in Derbent. In 1900, he graduated from St. Petersburg University (in the natural sciences division). As a student, he worked in the physiological laboratory of Professor N.E. Vvedensky; for the work "On the duration of nerve survival" conducted in this laboratory, he was awarded a gold medal. In 1904, he graduated from the Military Medical Academy and was retained at the department of mental and nervous diseases of Professor V.M. Bekhterev. During this time, A. wrote a number of works; among them was his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Medicine-"Clinical and experimental-psychological studies of speech function", St. Petersburg. After defending his dissertation (1908), he was sent abroad for three years; he studied in clinics and laboratories of Germany, France, and England. In 1912, he was appointed consultant at the Warsaw military hospital, and in 1914, consultant on nervous diseases at the St. Nicholas military hospital in St. Petersburg. In 1916, he was elected to the department of nervous diseases at the Military Medical Academy. The main direction of his scientific research was the application of the biogenetic method to the analysis of symptoms of nervous system diseases.-Works by A.: "Ober biogenetische Grundlagen der Symptomatologie der Pyramidenerkrankung" in "Deutsche Zeitschrift f. The majority of his scientific works concern clinical neurology.
