DEMENTIEV, Eustaphy Mikhailovich (born in 1850, died during the civil war years), a prominent physician and public health activist, participant in the first sanitary survey of the factories and plants of the Moscow province (1882-84), conducted jointly with F. F. Erisman and A. V. Pogozhev; subsequently (together with them and I. V. Popov) - sanitary physician of the first conscription in the Moscow province. In 1891, D. moved to St. Petersburg, where he began working in the factory inspection at the Ministry of Finance. His main work is: "Sanitary description of factory and industrial establishments in the Podolsky, Bronnitsky, Kolomensky, and Serpukhovsky districts" (Dementiev E. and Erisman F., "General summary of sanitary research on factory establishments of the Moscow province for 1879-85", Collection of statistical information on the Moscow province, vol. IV, part 2, Moscow, 1893). In addition, this material served him for a number of separate works; these include: "Development of human muscular strength in connection with his general physical development" and other works. This material also gave him data for the population of his time, and through summaries, he published a number of reports on medical assistance in factories and plants. All works of D. were distinguished by great thoroughness, extensive erudition, and place him among the outstanding researchers of the sanitary condition of workers in the 80-90s of the XIX century.
