Popov Ivan Vasilyevich (1855-1927), prominent figure in zemstvo medicine. In 1885-91 he worked as a sanitary doctor in the districts of Mozhaisk, Ruza, and Zvenigorod of Moscow province. In 1891-95 he was the closest collaborator of the founder of zemstvo medicine, E. Osipov, whom he succeeded in 1895 as head of the Sanitary Bureau of the Moscow provincial zemstvo. Popov led this bureau until 1914. Permanent member of the board of the Pirogov Society, participant in all Pirogov congresses. After the revolution, from the first days of the organization of the People's Commissariat of Health until his death, he was assistant scientific secretary of the Scientific Medical Council.
