DOLGOPOLOV, Nifont Ivanovich (1857-1922), outstanding public physician. In 1879, for participation in student 'disturbances', he was exiled in an administrative order to the city of Kurgan in Tobolsk Governorate, and from there for unauthorized (for exiles) medical practice - to the city of Tyukalinsk and further to the city of Ishim. Upon returning from exile, he passed the examination to become a physician (1887); he worked in surgery ( Kursk, gubernatorial hospital, zemstvo service in Biryuchensky Uyezd, Tula, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod). He was an active participant in the Pirogov Congresses; he delivered reports on socio-scientific questions; he was the initiator (together with Dr. A. P. Voskresensky) of the establishment of the Commission for the Dissemination of Hygienic Knowledge. In 1905 he joined the Socialist Revolutionary Party and for participation in revolutionary activities (Nizhny Novgorod) was arrested in December of that year and then was exiled to Astrakhan. Here, during the elections to the II State Duma, Dolgopolov was elected as a member from the populist bloc.
