DRUSKININKAI (Druskieniki; druska - salt), a balneological, mud and climatic resort in Vilna Voivodeship in Poland, on the right bank of the Neman River (200 m above sea level), 17 km from the railway station. The terrain consists of two terraces: on the lower one, up to 4 m high and adjacent to the Neman, are located the springs and the resort, on the upper one—up to 17 m and higher—the town. The subsoil is sand; the area is dry, with much greenery. The surroundings abound in pine forests. The climate is mild, moderately humid. Temperature in May-14.3°C, in June-17.4°C, in July-19.2°C, in August-17.8°C, in September-11.5°C; precipitation: in May-49.4, in June-91.2, in July-110.3, in August-99.0, in September-64.0 mm. Relative humidity from 72% to 81%. 17 sources are captured by wells and one is an artesian borehole («Nasha»). The latter is radioactive-3.63 units. Mache. Dry residue per 1 liter-6.9-10.6 g: chlorine-3.9-5.9 g, calcium-0.9-1.6 g, sodium-1.0-1.78 g, magnesium-0.32-0.97 g, sulfur anhydride-0.08-0.13 g, free and bound carbon dioxide-189-252 cm3, a little bromine, potassium and iron. Numbers 1 and 2 are used for drinking, the others-for baths; mother brine is also used. Bathhouse building (160 cabins), hydropathic and gymnastic halls. Baths are saline, mud (from peat), carbonic, electric, sun-air, steam; koumiss, kefir. Indications: tuberculosis of the lymph glands, scrofula, rickets, chronic rheumatism, diseases of metabolism, women's diseases, diseases of the stomach and intestines. Season-from May 15 to September 25.
