Summary

Hemialgia is a symptom characterized by pain and other unpleasant sensations occurring on one half of the body. It frequently develops as a result of a disease of the optic thalamus or sensory conductive pathways, and pain localized specifically to one half of the head and one eye is termed hemiopalgia.

HEMIALGIA (from the Greek hemi- half and algos pain), a symptom consisting of the occurrence of pain and other unpleasant sensations on one half of the body. Hemialgia frequently develops as a result of a disease of the optic thalamus or sensory conductive pathways. In some cases (Oppenheim, Marie), sensitivity is objectively not impaired. Pain in one half of the head and in one eye is called hemiopalgia.
